    ABSTRACT

    This study examined competency of gifted and talented students in the use of laboratory apparatus. The study employed a survey research method to collect information on the competency of gifted and talented students in the use of laboratory apparatus. The population of the study comprises of four (4) selected secondary schools in Oyo West Local Government, Oyo State. The researcher randomly selected sixty (60) students from the selected school for the study. The instrument used in collecting the data for this study was questionnaire titled “Competency Level of Gifted and Talented Students in the use of science laboratory apparatus and equipment” to elicit response to the seven (7) research questions raised in chapter one. TEST Re-test reliability method was used to estimate reliability of the instrument, r = 0.72

    In analyzing the data, the researcher used experimental statistics with the use of Chi-Square. The results of the study revealed that the two hypotheses were rejected.

    Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that the research should be adopted in aiding the standard of education of secondary school students in the schools and other neigbouring schools. Also, Federal government should consider this project in order to consider the use of science laboratory apparatus in public schools across the nation.

    ABSTRACT

    This study assessed the effect of early childhood education on the academic performance of children with hearing impairments in Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo State. The study made use of research question as research instrument and sixty (60) respondents were sampled for this study. According to the research findings, it was established that most of the pupils with hearing impairment who engage in early childhood education did perform so well in academic subjects. As a result, pupils who undergone early childhood education do not experience difficulties in understanding concepts presented to them in abstract during lessons. In fact, many of the pupils born with a hearing loss perform the same as the pupil who becomes deaf after acquisition of language in academic performance. Also, many of the pupils with hearing loss generally perform well during examinations but some pupils with hearing loss tend to repeat examination grades before passing to proceed to other grades. The finding shows that most examinations seems to be too overloaded for pupils with hearing loss and hearing loss did not impose difficulties on the learning of most pupils with learning impairment. Also, many of the teachers communicate with their pupils with sign language and have good relationship with the parents of their hearing impaired pupils. Conclusively, most of the pupils have difficulty concentrating and cannot pay attention for long. Most of the teachers encourage mixing with hearing pupils. Also, many of the students have a very strong temper and loses it easily. There are more than average instructional materials and most of their school does not have functional group hearing aid for teaching pupils with hearing impairment.

    ABSTRACT

    This study examined the impact of counseling service in solving the emotional problem of learning challenge persons. Questionnaire was used as research instrument to collect responses from students. Sixty (60) students were used as respondents for the study. The researcher recommended that the study should be adopted in aiding the standard of education of secondary school students. This is because counseling programme is believed to build a total student both in moral and education. It will also assist in reforming corrupt students. Also, Federal government should support secondary school students by organizing counseling programme for secondary school every term. This will prove it to the world that federal government has concern for secondary school students. Parents should take greater responsibility and spend more time with their children, teaching morals in order to let them have good emotional development. Students at all levels of education should be given adequate information on the impact of counseling service in solving the emotional problem of learning challenge person in order to promote healthy students morally.

    ABSTRACT

    This study examined the impact of cross word educational computer application as teaching aid on the academic performance of students with learning disabilities in Nigeria. The study employed a survey research method to collect information on the impact of cross word educational computer application as teaching aid on the academic performance of students with learning disabilities in Nigeria. The population of the study comprises of four (4) selected secondary schools in Oyo West Local Government, Oyo State. The researcher randomly selected hundred (100) students from the selected school for the study. The instrument used in collecting the data for this study was questionnaire titled “the impact of cross word educational computer application as teaching aid on the academic performance of students with learning disabilities in Nigeria” to elicit response to the three (3) research questions raised in chapter one. TEST Re-test reliability method was used to estimate reliability of the instrument, r = 0.05. In analyzing the data, the researcher used experimental statistics with the use of Chi-Square. The results of the study revealed that the first hypothesis was accepted while the other two hypotheses were rejected. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that the use of crossword computer application should be encouraged in teaching of students with learning disabilities in order to improve their academic performance. Also, Federal government should equip educational sectors with infrastructure like computer applications which can improve performance of students in all ramifications.

    ABSTRACT

    This study assessed the Impact of the home and the school environment on the performance of students in English Language (A case study of Afijio Local government Area, Oyo State). The study made use of research question as research instrument and sixty (60) respondents were sampled for this study. According to the research findings, it was established that most of the schools are situated in a serene environment because the schools have enough space to carry out academic functions. In fact, the schools have power supply that can be used to power multimedia instructional materials and there are play gadgets that can be used to refresh the memory after study sessions. As a result of this, there is nothing in the environment of the school that can pose danger to the students. In fact, many of the students do understand the topics taught in a small class compared to large class. Also, large class do keep many of the students lively compared to a small class. Also, many of the students do not feel shy to ask questions that are not clear to them in large class size. The finding shows that most of their teachers do feel happy in teaching large class size than small class and most of the schools classroom setting of large class size is conducive. This shows that many of them affirmed that their school has a well-equipped library. Also, many of them confirmed that there is enough reading materials in their school library that enhance English language performance. The finding shows that most of the students affirmed that reading materials in their school library has no relevance with English language and most of the students do learn English words whenever they read in their school library. Also, most of the students don’t like going to the library for reading.  Conclusively, most of the students from rich family are more brilliant and perform better in their assignments and are less disturbed psychologically than students from poor family background. Also, the average number of students from rich family do have access to read more materials on their courses than students from poor family background. Also most of the students from higher socio-economic class have more advantage than others.

    ABSTRACT

    This study assessed the influence of Arabic home classes on the achievement of students with learning disability in Arabic language. The population of this study was Arabic Language teachers in East and Oyo West Local Government Area of Oyo State. The study posed three research questions and questionnaire with 20 items was used to get answers to the research questions. 120 respondents were sampled for this study. According to the research findings, it was established that the fact that most of the students attended Arabic home-classes because theirparents prefer that they attend Arabic home class than to go extra mural class. As a result, the students do attend Arabic home-classes regularly. In fact, many of the Arabic home class teachers do teach them regularly. Also, there is a relationship between what they do learn in Arabic home classes and that of the school. The finding shows that Arabic home classes used to serve as revision to what they have learnt in school and Arabic home classes do make Arabic language easier for them to learn in school. This shows that Arabic home classes do assist them in speaking Arabic language fluently. Also, many of them confirmed that the Arabic texts they are using to learn Arabic at home class is enhancing their Arabic language and Arabic language assignment in school. In fact, explaining Arabic language in mother tongue at home Arabic class do aid most of the students understanding of Arabic language and most of the students have seen positive effects in their academic performance due to Arabic home class they were attending. Also, most of the students affirmed that Arabic home class does not make them to lose interest in western education. Also, most of the students do not used to have time to revise what they have learnt in school due to Arabic home class and most of them do not used to mingle with opposite sex in Arabic home class. Also, average number of the students used to learn bad attitudes and vulgar language from their mates in Arabic home class. Even, most of the students affirmed that it is easy to become stubborn due to the way Arabic home class teacher used to treat them because the teachers used to beat them on any mistake they made at Arabic home class.
